For several days, Internet users on Reddit claimed to have received a visit from Gabe Newell in person, who came to deliver their Steam Deck, the long-awaited PC/portable console hybrid. And no, it wasn’t a collective hallucination, the boss of Valve went to some lucky ones and the whole thing was immortalized on video:
With his large frame and his big white beard, Gabe Newell looks like a real Santa Claus, bringing an autographed Steam Deck to early buyers and obviously discussing a moment with everyone, in particular Final Fantasy XIVhis current addiction (like many players, and that’s good, the MMOs obviously spinning like a charm on the Steam Deck). Even more unlikely, after seeing Gabe Newell bring a Steam Deck to his neighbor, a fan recognized and greeted him, the boss of Valve then offered him a console, when he had not reserved anything ! A real Santa Claus. Others do not immediately recognize Gabe Newell (not so obvious with a mask), taking him for the delivery man, a job he practiced a long time ago at Western Union Besides.
As he explains himself, Gabe Newell wanted to mark the occasionleaving New Zealand where he resides to distribute consoles in Seattle, not far from the headquarters of Valve. The Steam Deck is a huge bet for the manufacturer, but success is already there, the manufacturer is struggling to keep up with demand. You can already find protective accessories on Amazon.
