Steam Deck: performance can be hampered if it’s too hot

At the beginning of the year, Valve launched the Steam Deck, a hybrid between computer and portable console allowing you to enjoy many PC games on the go. A device that makes most of its users happy, but has its limits in terms of performance. And the heat doesn’t help.

As temperatures soar all over the planet right now, Valve shared a statement to explain that if the Steam Deck gets too hot, it can automatically throttle its performance in order to preserve the components. And if that’s not enough, the Steam Deck can literally shut itself off, again to avoid irreversible damage. The manufacturer declares as follows:

For our friends in the middle of a heat wave, a quick note on the Steam Deck in case of high temperatures. The Steam Deck works best in ambient temperatures between 0° and 35°C. If the temperature exceeds this value, the Steam Deck may begin to reduce its performance to protect itself.

The Steam Deck APU performs well in temperatures up to 100°C. At 100°C it will start to reduce its performance and at 105°C it will stop. Again, this is to protect themselves (and yourself) from harm.

The ideal temperatures of use are the same as the Switch, but where nintendo only gave advice to avoid overheating, Valve has designed a system to avoid burning its components, as is the case in many computers, towers or laptops. Anyway, with nearly 40°C in the shade, who really wants to hold a steaming Steam Deck in their hands? You can find games Steam on Gamesplanet.
