Steelrising: the Souls-like details its Assistance mode to facilitate the gaming experience

For nearly 10 years, Spiders chain them Action RPG with March: War Logs, Bound by Flame, The Technomancer and Greedfall. The French studio just released this week Steerising, a new role-playing and action game that looks a little more towards souls liketaking us back to the French Revolution, but with automata.

We have already had several videos of gameplay of the game, which do not disorient the fans of the Dark Souls Where Bloodbornebut Steelrising wants to be more accessible than the titles of FromSoftwarein particular thanks to its mode Assistance. Sébastien Di Ruzza, design director, returned to these settings in a post shared on the site Xboxthis is what it says:

The Soulslike genre is inherently very demanding and its mechanics can be difficult to grasp when starting out, which is why we offer an Assistance mode.

In Steelrising, several parameters can be adjusted:

  • The amount of damage received by Aegis (the main character);
  • How quickly stamina regenerates;
  • The possibility of keeping or not the experience points (the Essence of Anima) when you die;
  • The ease with which you can achieve perfect chills.

We brought this up early in development following messages from fans finding the easier modes in our previous games still too difficult. The team had the chance to participate in accessibility training to be able to find the right solutions for Steelrising. In the end, we decided not to offer a difficulty mode per se, but to let you individually define each parameter to personalize your combat experience.

Game pacing is not affected, attack timing and enemy aggression will remain the same as in the original game.

Assist mode can be enabled from the start of the game, or toggled on or off at any time from the options menu. So don’t hesitate to use it for a particular boss or enemy that would cause you problems. Be careful though, if you want to get all the Achievements in the game, some of them related to the difficulty will not be accessible if the Assistance mode has been activated even once during your game.

Of course, you can also reconfigure the majority of the buttons on the controller.

Elden Ring offered an open world allowing you to improve your character elsewhere before returning to a difficult boss, Steelrising takes another path with these accessibility options, something to delight players who want to have fun without spending hours facing the same enemy, especially since the atypical universe of the game is a strong point underlined by the specialized press. As a reminder, the title is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, you can find it at €42.49 (-15%) on Gamesplanet.
