Stellantis dominates the French automobile market for individuals


(Boursier.com) — Stellantis the leading automobile manufacturer in France by its level of production, its industrial presence and its technological capabilities, confirms its position as undisputed leader of the French market in 2023 with a market share of 29.4% in VP+LCV, i.e. nearly 5% ahead of its main competitor, by 27.4% in VP (3% difference) and 38.9% in LCV (8.5% difference).

Stellantis dominates, with 27.4% market share and an increase of 31.6%, the market for electrified vehicles (BEV + PHEV), almost 13 points ahead of its main competitor. Two Stellantis models are in the top 5 best-selling electric vehicles in France in 2023: the Peugeot E-208 and the Fiat 500e.
The undisputed leader in the electric vehicle market in France, Stellantis is strongly committed to offering attractive models at affordable rents, with the support of Stellantis Finance & Services. No less than 10 electric models, from the brands Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, Opel, and Peugeot, all produced in Europe, become eligible for 2024 social leasing set up by the government, to allow the most modest households to drive electric. On the other hand, almost 1 in 2 models eligible for the 2024 Ecological Bonus in France is a Stellantis brand vehicle. 24 of the 56 models listed by ADEME are offered by the brands Abarth, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep, Opel and Peugeot.

FIAT shows an increase of 7.3% in its registrations in 2023 compared to 2022. This performance is driven in particular by the success of the electric Fiat 500, which recorded growth of 53% in its registrations compared to 2022 and represents 73% of the Fiat 500 sales mix. It is positioned second position in the electric city car segment. 2023 also saw the launch of the Fiat 600e, which entered the Top 10 electric city cars in December, the Fiat Topolino, which has more than 500 orders in just 1.5 months of marketing and will be in points of sale for the January open days. The Abarth 500e joined the range in June and, in just 6 months, doubled the brand’s performance compared to 2022.

Opel posted a second consecutive year of progress in 2023 with PC/LCV sales up 19.7%. Its market share thus increased from 2.31 to 2.41% over the year. These very positive results are notably supported by the strong rise in sales of 100% electric models (BEV), up +35.3%. Opel also posted very positive results in LCV with strong growth of +18.5%, allowing it to reach a market share of 2.3% (2.1% in 2022). Supported by its new products and its 100% electric versions, Opel continues its move upmarket and will be able to count in the coming months on a significant expansion of its offer with the arrival of the Corsa hybrid MHEV, the Mokka Electric with extended autonomy (more than 400 km), the Astra Sports Tourer, including a 100% electric version, and the completely renewed LCV offer.

Jeep records a 25% increase in registrations, at 7,590 units. The brand benefited in the second half of 2023 from the arrival of Avenger, voted ‘Car Of The Year 2023’, to regain market share. The very good performance of the latest addition to the range is notably supported by the success of its 100% electric version, which represents 70% of the model’s sales mix and achieves good performance among individuals (59%) but also for the first time, with large companies, in B2B (18%). In 2024, Jeep will continue its progress with the arrival of the e-Hybrid versions of Avenger but also the arrival of the new Jeep Renegade, Jeep Compass and Jeep Wrangler 4xe ranges.

Alfa Romeo registrations increase by 26% in 2023, driven by the launch of the first electrified vehicle in its range, the Tonale, almost half of sales of which are made in the Q4 Plug-in Hybrid version. The brand also announced its return to the B segment by revealing the name of its next compact SUV, the Alfa Romeo Milano, which will notably be available in a 100% electric version.

In 2023, DS shows growth of 11.4% in its registrations compared to 2022. This dynamic is based in particular on the enthusiasm for the two best-sellers DS 4 and DS 7 which show, respectively, volume increases of 31% and 24% and are positioned in the TOP 10 models best-selling premium. The year 2023 also marks the acceleration of DS Automobiles in terms of electrification, with 57% of registrations in E-Tense versions (43% in 2022). This performance is explained in particular by the success of DS 7 E-Tense, the best-selling premium plug-in hybrid model in France, and DS 4 E-Tense, the best-selling plug-in hybrid in its category.

2023 was a year marked by electrification for Peugeot. Two vehicles appear in the top 5 best-selling vehicles in France: the Peugeot 208 and 2008. Four vehicles are leaders in their segment: 308, 2008, 3008 and 5008. The Peugeot 208 remains the best-selling French electric vehicle in France .

Citroën continues the ‘success story’ of the Citroën C3 with a 15% increase in sales to individuals and an all-channel PC segment share of 12.5%. The C5 This performance is accompanied by an increase of 2.3 points in BEV VU market share. In December, the Berlingo positioned itself at the top of sales in the van segment with growth of 2.5 points in LCV market share.
