TURIN, Sept 20 (Reuters) – Stellantis said on Tuesday it has signed an agreement with partner Punch Powertrain to increase production in Italy of electrified dual-clutch transmissions (eDCTs) for hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

This new location, which will see the light of day in the large Italian factory of Mirafiori, in Turin, in northern Italy, will complement the production site of eDCT located in France, in Metz (Moselle), added the group born from the merger between PSA and FCA in a press release.

Production of the electrified boxes in Italy is expected to start in the second half of 2024.

Between them, the Mirafiori and Metz factories will supply all of the manufacturer’s European assembly sites, at the rate of 600,000 units per year on each of the sites, specified the general manager of Stellantis Carlos Tavares during a meeting. press conference.

He added that the investment in Mirafiori would represent a double digit amount in millions of euros.

The Turin complex will also become Stellantis’ main hub for the reconditioning and dismantling of used vehicles, as well as for the recycling of parts, an activity whose turnover Stellantis aims to increase tenfold by 2030.

Electric vehicles are at the heart of the long-term strategy set out last March by Chief Executive Carlos Tavares and which he expects to double Stellantis’ annual turnover to 300 billion euros by the start of the next decade. .
