(Boursier.com) — Stellantis announces two other major initiatives for its production sites in Italy, aimed at accelerating the transformation of its global value chain of electrified products and supporting its decarbonization objectives. In order to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles while meeting the objectives set out in the Dare Forward 2030 Strategic Plan, Stellantis and its partner Punch Powertrain have entered into a new agreement to increase production of the next generation of electrified gearboxes to dual clutch for Stellantis hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The modernized facility, located within the Mirafiori complex in Turin, Italy, will complement the existing capacity of Metz in France.

Stellantis also announced that the Mirafiori complex will host its main Circular Economy Hub. Planned for further development, the Hub will focus its early activities on the eco-responsible use of vehicles and spare parts, with vehicle refurbishment, dismantling and parts reconditioning with a scope expected to extend to worldwide. Building on the company’s current skills and capabilities, the creation of the Hub represents another important step in the implementation of the strategic plan for the Circular Economy Business Unit of Stellantis. Indeed, it will allow the company to quadruple the turnover resulting from an extended life of parts and services, and to multiply by 10 the turnover related to recycling in 2030 compared to 2021, believes the group.

Regarding the strengthening of eDCT production, the 50/50 joint venture between Stellantis and Punch Powertrain, called e-Transmissions Assembly, produces and delivers revolutionary eDCT transmissions for the company’s new generation of hybrid and PHEV models, thus contributing to the electrification of the various Stellantis brands through clean, safe and affordable solutions. The start of production in the new e-Transmissions Assembly site in Mirafiori is planned for the second half of 2024. At full capacity, the factories in Mirafiori and Metz (France) will supply all of the relevant Stellantis production sites in Europe.

The Stellantis Circular Economy Business Unit is one of seven profitable businesses announced in the Dare Forward 2030 Strategic Plan. It is a 360-degree business model based on the 4 Rs strategy: repair, reuse, refurbish and recycle. This independent Business Unit should generate more than 2 billion euros in turnover in 2030, indicates the manufacturer. Today’s announcement confirms that Stellantis’ main Circular Economy Hub will launch in 2023 at the Mirafiori complex. This transaction will expand Stellantis’ current business while supporting its Cradle to Cradle business model in Europe. Further announcements will be made to support Stellantis globally.
