Stellantis: Thanks to its partnership with Amazon, Stellantis is heading towards its historic high on the stock market

(BFM Bourse) – The automotive group resulting from the merger of PSA and Fiat-Chrysler has unveiled a series of agreements with Amazon in order to “become a leading tech company in sustainable mobility”. Among other projects, future Stellantis platforms will use the services of AWS, while on the other hand Amazon will become the first customer of the electric Ram ProMaster van.

Electricity and connectivity are arguably the two main drivers of the automotive industry’s metamorphosis by the end of the decade. These themes therefore tend to attract the attention of investors, who realize that the traditional players in the sector are not hanging around but are multiplying initiatives in order to remain competitive. Thus the announcement of a collaboration at several levels with the giant Amazon allows Stellantis to shine on the stock market on Wednesday. Around 3:15 p.m., the group’s share (resulting from the merger between Peugeot-Citroën and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) amounted to 18.328 euros, up 3.49%. The action is thus approaching its last peak, around 18.7 euros touched in mid-August last during the session.

Amazon and Stellantis have in fact unveiled a series of global agreements aimed at “transforming the in-vehicle experience for millions of Stellantis customers and accelerating the industry’s transition towards sustainable mobility solutions and a future supported by software. “.

On the one hand, Stellantis will collaborate with Amazon to deploy Amazon’s technology and software expertise within its organization, in particular for the development of vehicles, the creation of connected experiences on board and the training of the next generation. automotive software engineers. Together, the two companies will develop a suite of software products and services (updated over time) integrated into the digital world of users. Concretely, these solutions will form the “SmartCockpit” platform of Stellantis, which will be able to integrate with the main security and smart home services of Amazon.

Cloud for vehicles

The automotive group has also chosen Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the main cloud computing solution for its vehicle platforms. Stellantis and Amazon plan to jointly develop the next generation of cloud infrastructure dedicated to automotive platforms, including STLA SmartCockpit.

In addition, Amazon has signed on to become the first business customer of the Ram ProMaster Battery Electric (BEV), which is slated to market in 2023. The contract calls for the deployment of “thousands” of ProMaster BEVs each year on the roads, with a view to helping Amazon achieve its goal of zero carbon emissions by 2040. Since 2018, Stellantis has already supplied Amazon with tens of thousands of light commercial vehicles (LCVs), including the Ram ProMaster and the Fiat Ducato, as well as light commercial vehicles from Peugeot and Citroën, to support its last mile delivery activities in North America and Europe.

In total, this collaboration “makes it possible to combine Amazon’s innovative leadership in digital, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning with excellence in automotive engineering and the portfolio of 14 brands emblematic of Stellantis “, mentions the group in its press release.
