The Sonos Move, launched in 2019, is an imposing portable wireless speaker, on battery therefore, combining wifi, multiroom and Bluetooth. It is sold with a charging station, but can also be powered directly by its USB-C port, which makes it a rather atypical product. Passed through our laboratories, his unique proposal had caught our attention, but it had also shown some weaknesses.
The Verge managed to obtain a lot of information about its replacement, the Sonos Move 2. These leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, however, and Sonos declined to comment on them.
According to The Verge, the original recipe for the first Sonos Move should be taken up and the design would change little, as shown by a first image obtained by the American media. However, we note new controls, including a dedicated slider to adjust the volume, similar to that of the Era 100 and 300. The Sonos Move 2 would also receive a physical control on the back of the speaker, allowing the voice assistants to be deactivated. The IP56 water and dust resistance certification would still be in the game.
Up to 24 hours of autonomy and the possibility of recharging a smartphone
In terms of audio, the speaker would go from mono to stereo, thanks to the integration of a second tweeter. Another change, according to information from The Verge, the USB-C port of the speaker could now be used as an audio input, failing to take advantage of a mini-jack input. This same USB-C port could also be used to power a smartphone, for example, thanks to the battery of the Move 2. Convenient!
On the autonomy side, precisely, this new version would announce an endurance of up to 24 hours, against 10 hours of listening for the current generation, always with a removable battery. This would be a very nice improvement, because autonomy was the Achilles heel of the first Sonos Move.
Finally, the Sonos Move 2 would have wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 compatibility and would allow you to stream your music to other Sonos speakers in the house. Indeed, unlike the previous model, wifi and Bluetooth could work simultaneously.
According to information collected by The Verge, the Sonos Move 2 should be presented at the end of September. It would be marketed at a base price of $449 in the United States, or $50 more than the first version.
