Stern technology journalist Malte Mansholt has already spoken to Apple CEO Tim Cook four times and tested Apple’s new VR glasses before they went on sale in Germany. Mansholt talks about his experiences at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino in the new episode of “So techt Deutschland”.
Malte Mansholt describes himself as a “late nerd”: he didn’t buy his first computer until he was a student. “I wrote all my first assignments by hand,” admits the Stern technology journalist in the podcast “So techt Deutschland”. He didn’t buy a computer until he started his main studies.
Today he interviews the big names in the tech world and has met with Apple CEO Tim Cook four times. “He’s a very controlled guy. You can watch him think,” he reveals about Cook. Mansholt spoke to Cook before the launch of Apple’s new VR glasses. His assessment of the Apple Vision Pro: “It’s the best TV I’ve ever owned,” he enthuses, but sees the high price of 4,000 euros as the biggest obstacle. For Mansholt, the Vision Pro shows the direction Apple wants to go. “Apple is a company that is just opening up the markets,” explains Mansholt. Cook also confirmed this in the interview.
The market for virtual and augmented reality glasses is a growth market. Experts from the research company IDC expect annual growth rates of more than 40 percent per year until 2028. 10 million mixed reality glasses are forecast to be sold in 2024 and by 2028 this figure is expected to rise to almost 36 million.
