Ex-Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell has died aged 56. He lived his life “at full throttle”.

Steve Harwell (1967-2023), singer and frontman of the band Smash Mouth, is dead. He died on September 4th at his home in the city of Boise, Idaho, at the age of 56. Several US media report that including the industry magazine “Variety”, agreed.

Steve Harwell was ‘larger than life’

“Steve Harwell was a true American original,” the singer’s manager said in a statement seen by the magazine. He was a figure that was “bigger than life”. “Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and fierce determination to reach the heights of pop fame.” The fact that he “achieved this almost impossible goal with very limited musical experience” makes it even more remarkable. Harwell lived his life 100% “at full throttle”.

It was previously revealed that Harwell had been hospitalized with liver failure. A spokesman for the band “Entertainment Weekly” confirmedthat the singer was dying and has been back home for the last few days where family and friends could say goodbye to him.

Harwell retired from music in 2021 due to health issues. The band’s founder, Smash Mouth, was replaced as frontman by Zach Goode. The singer was diagnosed with heart disease cardiomyopathy in 2013.

In 2016 Steve Harwell collapsed at a concert due to heart problems and had to be taken to the hospital. In addition, Harwell is said to have suffered from Wernicke’s encephalopathy. Brain disease causes memory problems and disorientation. At a show in 2021, Harwell was noticed for his confused behavior and then resigned as a singer.

Smash Mouth has been around since 1994. The group is best known for the hit ‘All Star’ and a cover of the song ‘I’m a Believer’, which were featured on the soundtrack of the 2001 animated classic ‘Shrek’.
