Steven Soderbergh is planning a "philosophical successor" to his epidemic drama "Contagion", as the director revealed in a podcast.

With the film "Contagion", director Steven Soderbergh (57) brought a film to the cinema in 2011 that has had sad relevance since the corona pandemic. As a guest on the podcast "Happy Sad Confused", the filmmaker revealed that he is currently working with "Contagion" screenwriter Scott Z. Burns on a project that, in his words, can be viewed as a "philosophical sequel" to the epidemic drama.

The two films are linked to one another, but they differ from one another thematically. Soderbergh has not yet been coaxed into the project. Also not whether it is planned that some of the stars from "Contagion" appear again in front of the camera for the spiritual successor.

This is what "Contagion" is about

At the beginning of "Contagion" a woman (Gwyneth Paltrow, 48) returns from a business trip from Asia. She shows tiredness and cold symptoms, but records them as jet lag. She and her young son are dead within 24 hours. Her husband (Matt Damon, 50) turns out to be immune and survives. A worldwide epidemic breaks out, causing social chaos.

In addition to Damon and Paltrow, Kate Winslet (45), Jude Law (48), Marion Cotillard (45), Laurence Fishburne (59), Bryan Cranston (64) and the German actor Armin Rohde (65) can also be seen. The film grossed over 135 million US dollars (around 110 million euros) worldwide.
