Stiftung Warentest: Which dishwasher tabs are best?

Shocking results of a new dishwasher tab test by Stiftung Warentest: Several tabs of well-known brands have ruined dishes and brands in the test!

Brown crockery baskets, glasses with a heavy coating and discolored silver crockery – the testers found all of this in their major review! The result: Three of the 14 tabs tested are punished by the Stiftung Warentest as "poor"!

Which dishwasher tabs have been tested and how?

In the test, the experts had 14 so-called multi-tabs for the dishwasher completed 300 wash cycles each. In addition to cleaning, multi-tabs also perform other functions, such as integrated rinse aid, salt or a drying aid.

Terrifying: Several tabs attacked both the dishes and the dishwasher (see photo). In one case, the experts even canceled the text after about 200 rinsing cycles so that the machine was not damaged.

When evaluating, the testers paid particular attention to cleaning performance, rinse aid and drying function, as well as the environmental properties of the rinsing tabs. It was also examined how well they prevent limescale deposits and protect the material.

What does the test result look like?

The good news: The test winner was a cheap own-brand tab from the discounter – generally, the cheap tabs did well in the test. Three concrete results of the test:

  • The test winners are K-Classic dishes-cleaning-tabs all-in-1 from Kaufland (7 cents per wash, grade 2.1)
  • Best branded product was tested Somat Excellence Multi-Activ (17 cents per wash cycle, grade 2.8)
  • Test losers are Domol Dishwasher Tabs 12 in 1 by Rossmann (7 cents per wash, grade 5.0)

In general, supposedly environmentally conscious tabs have not performed well. The Stiftung Warentest writes: "The Multitabs advertised with Bio, Eco or Nature do no better than satisfactory. They have problems with cleaning performance, rinsing or protecting the material. The recipes are not yet fully developed."

All test results are available on the website of the Stiftung Warentest.
