Washing properly is a small art in itself. Some prefer to use liquid detergents – directly in the drum or not – others prefer powder. Or would you prefer liquid and sensitive? Stiftung Warentest shows: This detergent is one step ahead.

Color detergents were tested, after all they have the major task of preserving the bright colors – bleaches and optical brighteners are therefore taboo.

Five points were in the foreground for the test: washing effect, color retention, gentle treatment of textiles, packaging information and care instructions and environmental properties. Washing effect and environmental properties accounted for a total weighting of 70 percent.

Half of the detergents tested rated “good”.

The test results are mixed. Out of a total of 20 color detergents, none scored “very good”. But at least half of it is “good”. Of these ten good detergents, six are powders. Two other detergents are “satisfactory”, seven complete the test with only “sufficient”. Powder detergents are generally ahead of the game.

A total of six out of seven Powders are “good”, five of them with color retention. test winner for the powders “Color Megaperls” by Persil (Grade 1.8) – at 28 cents per wash, it is also the most expensive detergent. Own brands are significantly cheaper. The “domol color detergent” by Rossmann (grade 1.9), for example, has a similarly strong performance to Persil and only costs 16 cents per wash. The “Edeka Good & Cheap Ultra Color Detergent” (Grade 2.0) can also keep up. The “Priva Color Detergent Ultra” von Netto also received the grade “good”. Powder detergents therefore get significantly better results in the test than their liquid competitors.

Liquid detergent: Every second only “sufficient”

In the case of liquid detergents, around every second was only rated “sufficient”. A “good” received here, among other things “Formil Color” (Grade 2.2) from Lidl with 15 cents per wash. The “Think with Color Detergent” from dm (grade 2.3), that “Shetlan Color Detergent” by Penny (grade 2.3) and that “Yes color detergent” from Rewe (grade 2.3) were also awarded the grade “good”. The liquid detergents are priced the same, outliers were the detergents from Lenor and Coral, which are not among the test winners.

Sensitive color detergents (liquid) were not really convincing in terms of dirt and stain removal. The “Denkmit Color Detergent Ultra Sensitive” from dm with 19 cents per wash is the test winner – but with an overall rating of 3.4. A sensitive color detergent receives the rating “inadequate” and therefore fails the test. The reason for the bad rating is the unsatisfactory washing performance and poor fabric care. The “Sodasan Color Sensitiv” fails at firstbut according to the manufacturer, the recipe has since been changed.

Powder detergent clearly has the edge

In summary, one can say that powder detergents perform better than liquid ones. This is mainly due to the fact that some components of detergents cannot be dissolved by liquids. In addition, many consumers are not satisfied with the washing result. This could be due to using the wrong detergent. A heavy-duty detergent is the right choice for white blouses, towels and bed linen. A delicate or color detergent should be used for colored laundry.
