At the border post of Siret, in Romania, North African, African and Indian nationals, often students, meet. Tested by the difficulty of leaving Ukraine and sometimes confronted with racism, they remain distraught and neglected by their governments.

“Hey you, you speak English, right? Come help!” shouts a Romanian dressed in a yellow vest stamped “translator” in front of the border post of Siret, in the north of Romania. On the asphalt of the national, on which is piled up humanitarian aid, English sometimes supplants Ukrainian and Romanian. During the night of Monday to Tuesday, hundreds of Indian, Moroccan, Tunisian or Congolese citizens, students in Ukraine, mostly in Kyiv (Kiev), Vinnytsia but also Karkhiv, crossed the border. Wrapped up in blankets, their eyes darkened or wet with tears, everyone here knows that these last few days have been trying and the Romanian volunteers are busy distributing hot drinks and food.

Nobody’s answering

4 kilometers south of the border post, the Petru Musat school has been completely transformed into a dormitory to accommodate the refugees. In the classrooms and the gymnasium, dozens of beds are lined up, carefully prepared by volunteers and firefighters…
