(CercleFinance.com) – STMicroelectronics announced on Tuesday that it had reached a new milestone in the development of its FD-SOI technology with the launch of wafers measuring less than 20 nanometers.
Compared to the previous 40 nm process, the 18 nanometer FD-SOI technology with on-board phase change memory (ePCM) makes it possible to improve the performance/energy consumption ratio by more than 50%, explains ST.
This new generation semiconductor technology, co-developed with Samsung Foundry, also makes it possible to use larger capacity memories while raising the level of integration of analog and digital peripherals, argues the chip manufacturer.
Samples of the first microcontroller in the STM32 family using this new technology are to be provided to preferred customers in the second half of 2024, before entry into production planned for the second half of 2025.
