PARIS, July 10 (Reuters) – STMicroelectronics STM.PA and Global Foundries will announce on Monday the creation of a semiconductor factory in France for an investment close to four billion euros, Le Figaro reported on Sunday.
This project, which should be announced as part of the “Choose France” summit in Versailles, is in line with the European Commission’s initiative to strengthen Europe’s sovereignty in the manufacture of chips, adds the daily on its website.
The EU executive is ready to devote 50 billion euros by 2030 to increase Europe’s share of global chip manufacturing to 20%.
Franco-Italian chipmaker STMicro declined to comment.
