STMicroelectronics: extended agreement with the German SiCrystal – 04/22/2024 at 09:40

(CercleFinance.com) – STMicroelectronics announced on Monday that it had extended its agreement to supply silicon carbide (SiC) wafers with SiCrystal, a subsidiary of the German industrial group Rohm.

The new multi-year agreement involves the supply of larger volumes of 150mm SiC substrates, which SiCrystal manufactures in Nuremberg, in a contract valued at at least $230 million.

In a press release, STMicroelectronics explains that this partnership will allow it to benefit from additional volumes in order to support the increase in its production capacities in the automobile and industry.

Energy-efficient SiC power semiconductors enable the electrification of the automotive and industrial sectors through more efficient and sustainable processes.

They also make it possible to power resource-intensive infrastructures such as data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence applications.
