STMicroelectronics: new modules to increase the performance and range of electric vehicles

(Boursier.com) — STMicroelectronics announces several power modules increasing the performance and range of electric vehicles. These new silicon carbide (SiC) power modules from ST have been selected to power Hyundai’s E-GMP electric vehicle platform, also used in the KIA EV6 and several other models.

The 5 new power modules based on SiC MOSFETs provide automotive OEMs and OEMs with a flexible offering that covers multiple power ratings and operating voltages commonly used in electric vehicle (EV) traction applications.

Mounted in ST’s ACEPACK DRIVE case optimized for these applications, these new power modules are characterized by their reliability thanks to sintering technology, a high level of robustness and, for manufacturers, by their ease of integration into the motor of electric vehicles. Inside these modules, the main power ICs are ST’s 3rd generation (Gen3) SiC STPOWER MOSFETs which combine industry-leading figure of merit (RDS(ON) resistance x die area) industry, with very low switching energy and exceptional performance in synchronous rectification.
