(Boursier.com) — The managers of STMicroelectronics and the American group GlobalFounderies, Jean-Marc Chéry and Thomas Caulfield, will sign on Monday, June 5 in the presence of the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, the contracts relating to the implementation of State aid for the creation project of a new semiconductor factory in Crolles (Isère).

The total investment amounts to nearly 7.5 billion euros, with the objective of increasing French production capacity by 620,000 semiconductor wafers per year by 2028. The project will make it possible to add almost 6% of new production capacity to the existing European capacity.

The project provides for the creation of 1,000 jobs and the training of apprentices. At the request of the State, STMicroelectronics and GlobalFounderies undertake to prioritize orders, up to 5% of annual production capacity, to serve sovereign needs, national security, or specific needs for very small businesses and SMEs, in order to remove supply barriers to players of modest size.

On April 29, the European Commission authorized the granting of State aid to this project.
