"Stomach Vacuum" is a breathing exercise that promises not only a flat stomach, but also a strong back. Can it really work?

Even if you could think of it at first – "Stomach Vacuum" has nothing to do with the vacuum cleaner. In fact, it's a new trend that fitness bloggers everywhere are excited about. It is a breathing exercise that not only ensures a flat stomach, but is also supposed to be good for the back and a narrow waist.

How it all works is now shown by social media stars in countless videos. Fitness model Scott Herman, for example has demonstrated the exercise to over two million people on his YouTube channel:

How does "Stomach Vacuum" work?

Particularly practical: You don't need anything for "Stomach Vacuum", except for your own body. There are different levels of difficulty of the exercise: standing, sitting and lying down. Beginners should start with a standing workout. To do this, put both hands on your hips and inhale calmly through your nose and then exhale long and evenly. Pull your stomach inwards so that it practically pushes the air upwards out of the body. Hold that tension and count down from ten before pausing for a moment. You repeat the exercise three times.

"Stomach Vacuum" is a step more difficult while lying down. In doing so, you stretch your arms and legs properly. The sitting method is also suitable for professionals: Put your hands on your thighs and concentrate fully on the tension in your upper body.
