“Stomach Vacuum” is a breathing exercise that promises not only a flat stomach but also a strong back. Can this really work?

Even if you could think of it at first – “Stomach Vacuum” has nothing to do with the vacuum cleaner. In fact, this is a new trend that inspires fitness bloggers everywhere. It is a breathing exercise , which not only ensures a flat stomach, but should also be good for the back and a narrow waist.

Breathing exercise with a whistle

Social media stars are showing in countless videos how this works. Fitness model Scott Herman, for example, has now demonstrated the exercise on his YouTube channel to more than two million people:

How does “Stomach Vacuum” work?

Especially practical: For “Stomach Vacuum” you need nothing, except for your own body. There are different levels of difficulty in the exercise: standing, sitting and lying down. Beginners should start the workout while standing. For that, put both hands on your hips and inhale calmly through the nose and then for a long and even breath. In doing so, pull the stomach inwards so that it almost pushes the air upwards out of the body. Hold this tension and count down from ten before pausing for a moment. You repeat the exercise three times.

One step more difficult is “Stomach Vacuum” lying down. You stretch your arms and legs properly. For professionals, the method is also suitable sitting down: Put your hands on your thighs and concentrate entirely on the tension in the upper body.

Workout in between

The best thing about the exercise: It is not only suitable for being integrated into a workout in between, but can also be easily carried out in everyday life.
