Stop buying combustion engines – Swiss Post is converting its delivery fleet to electric vehicles

From now on, Austrian Post will only order vehicles with electric drives for delivery. The fleet will grow by 800 more e-vehicles this year alone, and up to 1,300 e-vehicles are to be added next year.

“From now on we will no longer purchase vehicles with combustion engines for delivery, instead we will invest over 80 million euros in e-vehicles and the charging infrastructure in 2022 and 2023,” says Logistics Director Peter Umundum. With around 2500 e-vehicles, of which around 1100 are E bikes, e-cargo bikes, e-mopeds and e-trikes as well as almost 1400 e-vans, the partially state-owned Post AG already operates the largest e-fleet in the country. With the vehicle models currently available alone, the Post is able to drive more than 90 percent of all delivery areas in Austria purely electrically In addition, there is significantly less wear and tear and lower energy costs,” said Umundum. In addition to the number of e-vehicles, Swiss Post is also pushing ahead with the expansion of the charging infrastructure, with a total of 6,000 additional charging points being created.
