Stranger Things: a young boy saves a life thanks to the Netflix series

A 12-year-old boy saves a man from drowning using a resuscitation technique seen in “Stranger Things”.

Austen MacMillan, a 12-year-old boy from Florida, and his behavioral therapist, Jason Piquette, were swimming in a pool when the latter tried to see how long he could hold his breath underwater, reports Good Morning America. It was ultimately a resuscitation technique seen in Stranger Things that saved Jason…

He’d been underwater for about six or five minutes and I was like, ‘That’s way too long. He can’t do that’”, declared the young Austen who then took action.

A surveillance camera centered on the pool reveals the scene: Austen swims to her therapist and pulls him toward the shallow end of the pool, then rushes out of the water to call for help. He then returns to Jason to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

I just saw this in a series – Stranger Things”, Austen said. “After I administered CPR, he woke up a few minutes later.

The scene in question would be taken from episode 8 of the first season of the flagship Netflix show, a scene in which Hopper (David Harbour) explains the technique to Joyce (Winona Ryder) as they together attempt to resuscitate young Will (Noah Schnapp).

Jason Piquette regained consciousness as Austen’s father returned home and called 911.

I think I passed out in about 30 seconds and I don’t know why”, said the therapist before praising his young savior. “I’m so amazed at how strong he was and how wise he was at that time. And I always want him to know he’s a hero.

The MacMillan and Piquette families said they hope the incident will remind the general public of two things: the importance of knowing CPR techniques and the importance of teaching children how to call 911 locked cell phones.

Stranger Things is available exclusively on Netflix.
