Finally ! A year and a half after the broadcast of its season 4, and long months of strike in Hollywood, the production of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things was officially launched on January 8. The Netflix series made the announcement on its social networks, with the added bonus of a first image of the team.

A release planned for 2025?

In this astonishing black and white photo, in which only the enormous red “5” has the color honors, we can see the entire cast, including the main actors Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, David Harbour, Winona Ryder , Joe Keery, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Sadie Sink, as well as series creators Matt and Ross Duffer.

This is an important step for the final season of the iconic Netflix series, which was not far from starting filming last year, when the American screenwriters’ strike began on May 2, 2023.

Although the scripts were then finalized, the Duffer brothers preferred to delay production to have the opportunity to have the writers on set, and to make corrections if necessary. The actors’ strike, which began on July 14, only confirmed this postponement of several months.

This season 5 of Stranger Things is still very mysterious, but we do know that it will focus on the character of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), and we have an idea of ​​what the first scene looks like.

The Duffers also announced their ambitions for this final chapter: “The characters will be quickly in the action, with a goal and a motivation […] and that’s going to make this season really different.”said Matt Duffer. “This conclusion will be much longer than the rest. It will be in the style of The Return of the King, with like eight endings”.

As a reminder, season 4 of Stranger Thingspremiering in 2022, is still Netflix’s second most popular series of all time, just behind Wednesday. Beyond this ranking, the series is a must-have on the streaming platform, and a real cultural phenomenon for several years.

With filming having just started, it is extremely unlikely that season 5 of Stranger Things coming out this year. We will therefore have to be patient, and wait for the long-awaited conclusion of the series for 2025… or even beyond.
