Stranger Things Season 4 on Netflix already reveals a lot about villain Vecna. Did he perhaps create the mind flayer in the shadow world? Netzwelt explains the theory to you.
- In “Stranger Things” season 4, Vecna causes fear and terror.
- According to Dustin, Vecna is a minion of the Mind Flayer, but is that really true?
- Episode 7 hints that it was Vecna who created the Mind Flayer.
The characters from “Stranger Things” always name the characters from the shadow world after beings from “Dungeons & Dragons” and often they also draw conclusions that were clearly inspired by the popular role-playing game. In the past, they’ve often hit the mark with that, but is that the case again in Season 4?
In Episode 7 of Stranger Things Season 4 on Netflix, Dustin theorizes that the Demogorgons act as foot soldiers for the Mind Flayer while Vecna is his five-star general. So he remains certain that the mind flayer controls and directs the shadow world and its creatures.
But what if Vecna doesn’t serve the mind flayer, but created the mind flayer? When Henry Creel was banished to the shadow world by Elfi, no Mind Flayer can be seen. So Vecna could have been the first inhabitant of the shadow world.
Vecna himself provides the clearest clue, telling Elfi about his fascination with spiders. This information didn’t play much of a role in Episode 7, but it does explain why the Mind Flayer also looks like a large spider: Vecna deliberately made the Mind Flayer look like one.
This would make Vecna the biggest villain in the series, which makes sense given that the gigantic and faceless memory flayer is hardly suitable as an exciting boss. Vecna, on the other hand, is a good antagonist since he was once human himself. Should Vecna be defeated, the mind flayer would probably disappear as well, and no one from the shadow world would try to enter our world anymore.
Surely the two remaining episodes from the second part of the 4th season of “Stranger Things” will reveal whether there is anything to this theory. Season 5 of the successful Netflix production has been confirmed as the finale of the series, so season 4 will definitely not offer us a happy ending.
