“Stranger Things” is so successful on Netflix that the streaming service let the Duffer brothers decide for themselves when the series should end. The two showrunners are allowed to tell their story at a pace that makes sense to them and do not have to stretch the plot or rush to a conclusion. So they decided that “Stranger Things” should have a final 5th season.

Stranger Things: When does season 5 start on Netflix?

The fifth season of “Stranger Things” does not yet have an official start date. During a live stream on Instagram, Will Byers actor Noah Schnapp stated that they wanted to start filming in May 2023. However, that was massively delayed.

In an interview with Collider magazine, actor David Harbor stated that filming had to be postponed until the summer. The reason was his physical condition. But filming couldn’t begin in June 2023 either because the writers and actors’ strikes put a stop to the plan.

Now the team behind the successful series announced on Instagram that filming has officially started. Despite many delays, the final season of “Stranger Things” is scheduled to appear in 2024. However, that is not really realistic; we are assuming a start in 2025.

Stranger Things: Trailer

There is currently no official trailer for the 5th season of “Stranger Things”. However, the official Twitter channel for the series released a small video in which they tease that the upcoming play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” will enlighten us about what to expect in the series finale.

Stranger Things: The Plot of Season 5

Little is currently known about the plot of season 5 of “Stranger Things”. Only the title of the first episode has been shared so far: “The Crawl”. Of course, there’s not much that can be inferred about the plot here other than that something or someone is going to crawl. The only thing that has been revealed so far is that the play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” will provide a clue as to how the final season will solve the mystery surrounding the Shadow World.

It is certain that the open questions remaining from season 4 will be answered in season 5, after all, the Netflix hit is supposed to conclude all storylines.

It is also already known that season 5 will begin with a time jump that may even catapult us several years into the future. A daring decision after the cliffhanger finale of season 4, but the main actors and actresses are so obviously older than their characters that Elfi and Co. now also have to age as quickly as possible.

Incidentally, the running time of the episodes in season 5 should decrease again after the 4th season consisted almost entirely of extra-long episodes. The series finale, on the other hand, will last over two hours, the Duffers can already confirm that.

Stranger Things Season 5: Cast

As things stand, all of the main characters of “Stranger Things” should be seen again in season 5. In other words: Anyone who was still alive at the end of season 4 will also return in season 5. That includes Sadie Sink as Max, although her fate is of course up in the air.

The cast also receives support in the 5th season from Sarah Connor – not the successful German singer, but the heroine from the “Terminator” films! Your actress Linda Hamilton is joining the cast of “Stranger Things” for the final episodes. Whether she will be a friend or enemy of Elf and Co. has not yet been revealed. Linda Hamilton’s participation in season 5 was announced by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the “Terminator” himself.

A return of deceased characters is of course also possible in the world of “Stranger Things”, but it is unlikely that we will find out about guest appearances of this kind in advance. As is so often the case, patience is required here too.

Stranger Things Season 5: Production

In August 2022, the screenwriters and producers started working on the 5th season of “Stranger Things”. At the time, they posted a picture on Twitter of a still empty whiteboard with the “Stranger Things” logo.

Filming was scheduled to begin in summer 2023, but was hampered by the 2023 writers’ strike, meaning work could not begin until January 2024.

After the 5th season of “Stranger Things” the series is over, but the story is far from over. There are three spin-offs in active production so far. The play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” opened at the Phoenix Theater in London in November 2023. The play tells the backstory of Henry Creel alias Vecna.

Two animated series have also been confirmed. One will be reminiscent of the cartoons from the 80s and 90s, the other is an anime set in Japan.
