Did you notice the mistake that crept into Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1? To be precise, it is rather an oversight but not the least: that of Will’s birthday! Indeed, the most attentive fans quickly noticed that episode 2 of season 4 takes place on March 22 in the series, the date which was established as the birthday of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) in season 2. However, no mention of the event is made during the episode, making it seem like all of Will’s friends and family have forgotten…
Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer shared their feelings about it in an interview with Variety, and found the idea just too awful to contemplate. “It is too sad !exclaimed Matt Duffer, “and it makes no narrative sense. But we were talking about it yesterday, and I think we’re going to ‘George Lucaser’ all of this.What the duo call “George Lucas-ing” — making the proper noun a verb in English — means going back and altering what’s already been shown on screen, just like the Star Wars creator did. did with his own films. So their emergency plan is as follows: retrace their steps and change the episode of season 2 in which Joyce (Winona Ryder) mentioned the famous date. Matt Duffer said they’re considering giving Will a new birth date of May 22, with the word “May” easily replacing “March” in Joyce’s mouth thanks to a retroactive dub.
And guess what, it wouldn’t be the first time the Duffer brothers changed something in Netflix’s flagship series…”We already have ‘George Lucasé’ things that people don’t know about,” continued Matt Duffer, however not detailing the specific changes made to the previous seasons. But as his brother Ross added, “you do however have the physical copies, Blu-rays and such – you will need to compare,” before letting slip that they had even already modified the first part of season 4 after its publication on May 27th. “Some of the visual effects“, said Ross. “It’s not the story, but you’re basically correcting plans. I do not think that [Netflix] has ever allowed people to correct themselves on weekdays or weekends same opening. And we said, ‘Well, why not?’ And [Netflix] said, ‘Well, that makes us nervous.’ And we thought, ‘Well, maybe it’s time to try.’”
“I’m just glad we turned ‘George Lucas’ into a verb!”, finally declared Ross Duffer, a verb whose use could become widespread in Hollywood.
