Revealed to the world by the Netflix series “Stranger Things”, actress Millie Bobby Brown accuses the media of sexualizing her since she came of age.
At only 12 years old, propelled by the success of Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown became a world star. Very young, the interpreter of Eleven discovers the ransom of glory, in particular on the side of the press people, where his image has often been judged. Since she was 18, the actress claims that this has increased and accuses certain media of sexualizing her.
In full promotion of season 4 of the Duffer brothers’ series, the actress confided in this behind the scenes in the podcast The Guilty Feminist. Asked about her career, the young woman explains:
“All the girls my age are trying to grow up. They have boyfriends, friends and want to blend in, while trying to discover themselves. The only difference for me is that obviously I live it in the eyes of public opinion, so it can be very overwhelming..”
The star admits to feeling a drastic change since coming of age: “Two weeks before I turned 18, I felt I was more sexualized. I clearly see a difference that people, the press and social networks have been acting on since my majority.”
She continues: “It shouldn’t change anything, but it’s disgusting and it’s a reality. It’s a beautiful depiction of what’s going on in the world and how young women are sexualized. I’m dealing with it, but it’s not new.”
To give an example, the actress remembers the day when, at 16, she felt “crucified” by the media and social networks after wearing a dress with a slight slit during a ceremony. “I was like, ‘God, are we really talking about this? We should rather talk about the incredible people who were present that evening.‘”
After season 4 of Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown will return to her role as Enola Holmes in the sequel, still offered by Netflix. She will also perform the lead role in Damsel, an original film, also on the platform.
