With its budget for “Stranger Things”, Netflix even beats the HBO cult series “Game of Thrones”.

The Netflix streaming service is paying a lot for the fourth season of the fantasy series “Stranger Things”. As the Wall Street Journal reports, the new season is Netflix’s most expensive to date. An impressive 30 million US dollars are to flow into the production of each individual episode. This means that the costs have tripled compared to the third season. According to rumors, each episode is said to have cost around 10 million US dollars. Netflix has not yet officially commented on the production costs.

Stranger Things beats Game of Thrones

Season 4 of “Stranger Things” would not only be the most expensive Netflix series, but also the most expensive TV production of all time. The HBO fantasy extravaganza “Game of Thrones” cost around 15 million US dollars per episode at the time. Disney+ has raised the bar in recent years with Loki and WandaVision. The shows reportedly cost $20 to $25 million per episode. Competitor Amazon is also paying a lot for its latest show “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. According to the assumptions, a budget of 500 million US dollars is available for the first season.

Season 4 starts at the end of May 2022

Stranger Things returns to Netflix in May after a two-year hiatus. The fourth season will be released in two parts. The first half will be available from May 27th, the remaining episodes are scheduled to follow on July 1st, 2022. The story picks up six months after the events of Season 3. The main characters are now scattered all over America. Hopper finds himself in Russia.
