stratospheric figures, nothing stops the machine!

This probably won’t surprise you, but the Nintendo Switch has been selling like hot cakes since its release. And the recent figures are dizzying.

Since its launch in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has revolutionized the video game console market with its versatility and catalog of engaging games. While the world of technology continues to develop at a fairly frantic pace, Nintendo recently took stock of the commercial performance of its famous console and announced projections.

The Nintendo Switch continues to be a hit

Nintendo recently updated sales figures for its Switch console, continuing to dominate the market despite a slight decline in annual sales. Since its launch in 2017, the Switch has sold 141.32 million units worldwide, with annual sales for fiscal year 2024 amounting to 15.70 million units, marking a decline of 12 .6% compared to the previous year.

The console saw several of its models contribute significantly to sales figures: the original sold 3.86 million units, the OLED model 9.32 million, and the compact Switch Lite version 2.52 million. These robust numbers demonstrate the Switch’s continued appeal across different market segments.

Nintendo estimates that sales of the Switch will reach around 13.50 million units in the next fiscal year, which would bring the total to around 154.82 million. If these predictions come true, the Switch could almost equal or even surpass the record of the PlayStation 2, which holds the title of the best-selling video game console of all time with 155 million units.

In addition to the success of the console itself, certain games have largely contributed to its appeal:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe : 61.97 million units sold
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons : 45.36 million
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate : 34.22 million
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild : 31.85 million
  • Super Mario Odyssey : 27.96 million
