Released last week stray has been a real success. Both well received by players and by the press, the adventure game where you play as a cat seems to be unanimous. Even better for its developers, the title works very well on streaming platforms like Twitch and YouTube, and also seems to appeal to cats, who never tire of watching their master play. In the end, only the doggo team seems to be injured. But now there is an alternative.
Stray, but better
We expected it a little, the community of modders quickly took advantage of the craze to offer mods that alter the display of certain elements of the game. The good find of the day is a mod that allows you to replace cats by dogs.
It is the user Chris Rubino who developed this mod available on the Nexus Mods platform and which is accessible for download for free. As he specifies, the mod is not yet finalized and is still under development. It allows you to replace the hero in a French bulldog but also to bark instead of meowing when you press the corresponding action key.
Of course, this is simply an aesthetic change: the hero is simply replaced by a dog, as if in disguise. This will not affect gameplay. It is also good to remember that this is a voluntary change of the game files, and that you will therefore always have the feeling of embodying a cat. Moreover, Chris Rubino does not hesitate to point out that this is not to fuel the gueguerre between people of taste who prefer dogs, and others.
Garfield and others invite themselves
The dog is not the only alternative that can be found since many mods have already emerged. Among the latter, we find some that have quickly become viral on social networks, in particular one that allows you to replace your chat with Garfield or another that adds CJ from GTA San Andreas. Yes yes, the rendering is still quite amazing.
Other users have tried to model their own cat to act as if they were in control. Finally, some pay homage to their missing feline companion by playing on their colors. Many are also absolutely adorable. stray is already available digitally on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Steam. It will also be released in physical version at the end of September.
