The MMA duel between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk could well become a reality, since the first has just proposed a date, and the second a means of dissemination.
Reason would dictate that this event should not take place. But, to be honest, we’ve already marked the date in our diaries, and we’re not the only ones, as is X.com’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino.
Elon vs the Zuck
It’s been a few weeks since the MMA fight between the two billionaires hasn’t really been talked about. The duel was proposed at the end of June by Elon Musk against a backdrop of rivalry between the late Twitter and Threads, but the two belligerents have not really spoken on the subject since. So much so that Mark Zuckerberg admitted not really knowing if the event would materialize one day. On the other hand, we could see his rival training with a certain Lex Fridman, a computer scientist versed in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as well as with the champion of the UFC George Saint-Pierre.
Not sure that this is enough to bring to his knees Mark Zuckerberg, passionate about MMA and amateur, precisely, of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. This one has just made things happen by proposing a date for the event: Saturday August 26th. And if Elon Musk has not yet confirmed it, we at least know the platform on which the whole planet will be able to watch the match.
Two camps, two visions of the world?
Indeed, the intervention of Mark Zuckerberg does not come out of nowhere. A few hours earlier, his rival had announced that the meeting would be broadcast live on… X.com. If it was a question of recalling that it is possible to broadcast live videos on the platform, the billionaire also specified that the proceeds would be donated to a charity association in favor of veterans. The bare minimum for a rivalry that already smells strongly of testosterone.
If we do not really see the point of what we could call a real masquerade, it is a way for the two men to get people talking about them and their respective platforms. If one speaks only on X.com, the other only responds on Threads or Instagram. The world seems to have to be divided into two camps: that of Musk, who wants to create a mega-app similar to WeChat, and that of Zuckerberg, whose company and its subsidiaries already reach almost half of the world’s population.
Anyway, as in a wrestling match, the two men risk looking for each other with verbal jousting and interposed GIFs. Moreover, the boss of Meta has already started the exercise well on his side, commenting on the broadcast of the match on X.com: “ Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can raise funds for charity? He is referring here to the financial difficulties of Elon Musk’s social network, and we can be sure that the remark will not please the latter.
