Stress Relief: 4 Extraordinary Ideas to Let Off Steam

You could just run into the wall screaming? We know only too well – but there are injuries. We have a few more effective methods.

Pure despair. Stress level high 100. The pulse is racing. What to do when there is total emotional chaos? The internet advises meditation and slow inhalation and exhalation. Nice try! That might work if someone steps on our foot for the second time on the train. But not when we are exposed to real tantrums. For real crisis situations, we have a few unusual – but definitely more effective – ideas to really let off steam.

1. Destroying things

Just swing the hammer and slaughter everything in the room. Phenomenal! Of course we're not talking about our own furniture. In many cities there are so-called "crash rooms", in which one can smash old furniture armed with protective clothing and a hammer. Really liberating!

2. Turn up the music

Even as a teenager, it worked extremely well to let go of adolescent frustration: Lock yourself in the room and turn up the music properly. When did we actually forget? It can be so simple: Sound on and shout along from the bottom of your soul. Works particularly well with heavy metal songs or favorite songs from the old days – and preferably still in the car.

3. Good old gardening

Gardening? As a child, the worst housework a mother could put on you. Today, however, a surprisingly beneficial activity. Have you ever pulled weeds in anger or hacked into a bed? Not only loosens the earth, but also us.

4. Puking yourself up

Either with friends or in silence. For the second, there are great books that are actually there to finish them off. For example, do you already know these two candidates: "Puking yourself out" by Marcus Kasper or "Finish this book" by Keri Smith. Creasing, staining, scrawling and tearing pages is a must here. The whole thing is then called creative frustration relief. Lovely!
