Sharp rules decided
Bavaria goes into lockdown light

Bavaria is digging deep into its toolbox in the fight against Corona. All Christmas markets are canceled, clubs and bars close. Some counties are locked down. Schools and retail are not affected.

Bavaria is massively tightening the reins in the fight against Corona. Prime Minister Markus Söder announced further tough restrictions for the coming weeks. All Christmas markets in the Free State are canceled. A lockdown also applies in counties with an incidence of more than 1000. “Everything has to be closed here,” said the CSU chief after a meeting of his cabinet in Munich.

There will be exceptions for daycare centers, schools and retailers. In retail, however, the number of customers is limited to one per ten square meters. In lockdown counties, the number of customers is limited to one per 20 square meters.

In addition, clubs, bars and all night-time restaurants will be closed again. There is a curfew from 10 p.m. for restaurants. These closings apply nationwide, Söder said. It must be dealt with where there are the most infections.

2G plus is coming

Cultural and sporting events are only allowed with a maximum occupancy of 25 percent of spectators and the 2G-plus rule, which also limits the number of spectators for games of Bavarian clubs in the Bundesliga. Health Minister Klaus Holetschek once again appealed to people in the Free State to get vaccinated and voluntarily reduce their contacts. The health system is threatened with collapse.

The lockdown measures should apply until mid-December. Eight Bavarian districts currently have an incidence of over 1,000. Söder said he expected an increase here. The resolutions of the cabinet are to be introduced to the state parliament on Tuesday and adopted there.
