Tom Cruise, new victim of the strike in Hollywood. Paramount announced this week that the sequel to Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 will not arrive in June 2024 as planned, but… in May 2025. In addition to this postponement, this Mission Impossible 8 will even change its name.

A half-finished shoot

As Dune: Part Two And Deadpool 3, Mission Impossible 8 finds himself blocked by the strike currently underway in Hollywood.

If the writers found a resolution with the studios on September 27, SAG-AFTRA (the main actors’ union) has still been at a standstill since July 14, and the negotiations are visibly tense. Filming is therefore on pause, and the actors cannot participate in the promotion of the films.

Mission: Impossible 7 was released in theaters on July 12, 2023.

Started in March 2022, filming of Mission Impossible 8 had to be interrupted in early July to allow Tom Cruise and the cast to promote the seventh film in the franchise. But with the start of the strike, filming has still not resumed, although only 40% of the film has been filmed.

The situation is such that Paramount Pictures had to postpone the release of this Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part 2 from June 28, 2024 to May 23, 2025.

The studio will take advantage of this postponement to change the title of the film, which will therefore no longer be presented as a second part. The reason ? Part 1 slightly disappointed at the worldwide box office with “only” 567 million dollars… for a colossal budget of 291 million.

The next Mission Impossible won't be released until 2025.

This new release date should allow Tom Cruise to quietly finalize this eighth mission of Ethan Hunt, and above all to take care of its theatrical release, with a three-week exclusivity contract signed with IMAX.

We remember that last July, Mission Impossible 7 had suffered from the tidal wave barbie and had its IMAX screens stolen by Christopher Nolan and his Oppenheimer.

The spin-off of Quietly takes over the release date of Mission Impossible 8.
