Striking Distance Studios: a blow that will change everything for the studio behind The Callisto Protocol

A little game and then leaves? This is what could happen to Striking Distance Studiosthe subsidiary of Krafton founded in 2019 by Glen Schofield. Vice President and general manager at the house of Visceral Games until 2009, where he participated in the development of Dead Spacethen co-founder of Sledgehammer Gameswith whom he created Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 And Call of Duty: Advanced WarfareSchofield had added a new string to his bow by setting up this team in San Ramon, California to produce The Callisto Protocol.

As you probably know, although it was appreciated differently by critics, The Callisto Protocol clearly did not meet its audience, leading Krafton to lay off around thirty people this summer. The internal atmosphere did not seem to be good after the launch, while developers complained of not being credited on the project. And it is in this context that Bloomberg reports that Glen Schofield, director and founder of the studio, has just left his position to “pursue new opportunities”. The chief operating officer and the financial director also reportedly announced their resignations.

He himself describes this departure as “bittersweet”, a sign that he is certainly not happy of heart, but says he knows that “the studio is in excellent hands”. These hands are notably those of Steve Papoutsis, director of development who will take over as CEO. Striking Distance Studios should therefore survive this departure (for the moment), Krafton reassuring by stating that “the studio plans are not affected” by this reshuffle. We now look forward to knowing what the team will produce under this new directorship, but also to knowing what awaits Glen Schofield in his future adventures.

For the latecomers, The Callisto Protocol is available from €19.99 on Amazon.com.
