Stripe’s valuation halved after raising $6.5 billion

With the tech industry in turmoil after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, Stripe pulled off the feat of closing a $6.5 billion seed round from investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital . However, this operation has a bitter taste for the American unicorn, which specializes in online payments, since its valuation has been halved.

Estimated at $95 billion in March 2021, the company exits its new fundraising round with a $50 billion valuation. Two months ago, TechCrunch already assured that Stripe had reduced its internal valuation to 63 billion dollars. Eventually, investors decided to lower it by another $13 billion. A sign that the company is going through a complicated period, it separated last November from 14% of its workforce, or 1,120 people among its 8,000 employees.
