Stromae: this derisory salary paid to dancers on the set of the clip “Fils de Joie”

Present on the set of the clip Fils de Joie by Stromae, a dancer then confided in the derisory salary that she would have received. The young woman also describes harsh working conditions.

Stromae has signed its big comeback. With his new album Multitude, the Belgian singer is making a strong comeback in the musical world. But according to our colleagues from the RTBFthe artist would have paid only a very small salary to the dancers for the filming of the clip Sons of Joy. Last January, hundreds of artists came to the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels. A dancer who participated in the filming then posted a text directly addressed to Stromae: “You who defend the values of social justice, why did you choose Abyssal production which does not even seem to care about remunerating cultural workers decently?”she asks him.

The young woman then reveals the salary she would have received : “150€ for 5 days of work (rehearsals, fitting and outdoor shooting)”. But that’s not all, she also reveals a shoot that did not go well: “Contracts, conditions and workloads revealed after the casting result, planning email received at night or at the last minute, contempt and lack of professionalism on the part of the organization and the choreographers for the dancers, not to mention the waffles as catering…”. Information that sends shivers down your spine. The RTBF then questioned the young dancer who once again confirmed her words.

“We were expecting compensation”

Indeed, she describes extended days with the singer: “We knew the shooting days, but not the rehearsal days. At the start, it was a paid project and when we learned that it was 150 euros for the five days, we were already a little involved in the project. […] We expected compensation. For me, remuneration is an employment contract, it is not a reimbursement. If you want to offer 150 euros for such a job, it’s ok in some cases.”
