Stromae: with modesty, he evokes the burn-out he suffered

On the set of Le Quotidien, Stromae spoke about his new album “Multitude”. Faced with Yann Barthès, the artist made some confidences about his mental health.

On the occasion of the release of his latest album “Multitude”Stromae was the guest of Yann Barthès on Thursday March 3, on the set of Day-to-day. live on TMCStromae promoted his album, despite some discomfort with the situation in Ukraine.

After talking about his long years of absence, Stromae was asked about “Unbeaten”, the first title appearing on his album, but also the first to have been written. When Yann Barthès asked his guest what this title evokes, the latter spoke to him about a celebration of life: “It evokes the fight against any disease. It’s just an ode to life, to tell yourself that as long as you’re alive, you’re undefeated. It was just a way of seeing the glass half full in the end”he replied to his interlocutor.

Intrigued by this answer, Yann Barthès asked Stromae if this title also referred to his burnoutto which the artist replied: “For example, but for any form of illness (…) It’s true that I had a little exaggerated at the level of the concerts so I had to rest a little”he confided in TMC. In 2016, Stromae had already declared that he was exhausted and needed a break.

Stromae in relation to its title “L’enfer”: “I knew it was a bit emotional song, but I had completely forgotten the meaning”

On the set of Day-to-day, Stromae returned to his memorable performance on January 9, on the JT de 20 Heures set. Facing the viewers and Anne-Claire Coudray, the artist had offered an unpublished interpretation of his title “Hell”breathtaking in passing the 7.3 million viewers present that evening.

Even today, Stromae says he did not expect such a reaction from the public: When we are in a phase of mixing, mastering, we no longer think at all of the lyrics. I was just trying to see if my voice was too loud, too low”explained the singer who was attacked by Booba following this performance.

Thanks to its moving text, toll-free numbers dedicated to people with suicidal thoughts recorded a marked increase in calls. If he is happy that his performance was able to free speech, he is still surprised: “I wasn’t really paying attention to the text anymore. I knew it was a bit emotional song, but I had completely forgotten the meaning”, he confided. Faced with this reflection, Yann Barthès could not retain his answer: “A little emotional?”he exclaimed, indignant and amused by this euphemism.
