If you’re wondering what appears to be hurtling effortlessly over the mountaintop at over 40 km/h, in many cases it’s an S-Pedelec from Stromer in Switzerland. The company, which has been active since 2010, is considered the market leader for 45 km/h S-Pedelecs and primarily has these in its range. Recently also in limited special editions, such as the top model ST7.
The models (helmets and insurance are required for S-Pedelecs) are intended to be seen as an alternative to cars and are particularly attractive for commuters. This fits in with the superior features of the ST5, which can now look forward to a prestigious award. Stromer was recently awarded the “Red Dot Award: Best of the Best 2024” in the Product Design category for the design of the ST5 Pinion model.
It comes with a 9-speed Pinion gearbox. But be careful – this is not the Pinion-MGU that everyone is talking about in 2024. The so-called Motor Gearbox Unit (MGU) combines the motor and circuitry in one housing.

Stromer, on the other hand, uses a Pinion manual transmission, but in the ST5 it is combined with an 850 watt rear wheel motor, which pushes particularly hard in sport mode. Commuters should also be happy about the fully integrated ABS in the front wheel, which is supposed to ensure the best deceleration even in bad weather.
The other features of the elegant S-Pedelec are also impressive. One example is the keyless battery ejection. In no time at all, if necessary, you can transport the energy storage device, which should provide a typical range of 180 kilometers, to a socket.
And the high-quality LED lighting from Supernova, which shines brightly up to 1,900 lumens when required, should not go unmentioned.
Price and availability
So much equipment is reflected in the price. For the Stromer ST5 Pinion, which will be available in the new color “Aventurine Green” in 2024, you have to invest 10,990 euros.
