Strong and stylish – BMW CE 04: E-scooter with surprising features

With the CE 04 e-scooter, BMW is really showing how the company envisions – and implements – a piece of urban mobility of the future. The Munich-based company does not speak of a power scooter, but rather see it as a lifestyle product for a new form of “urban single-track mobility”. Although the CE 04 is quite powerful.

The futuristically designed scooter has a continuous output of 15 kW / 20 PS and a maximum output of 31 kW / 42 PS. The power-reduced light scooter version delivers 11 kW / 15 PS or 23 kW / 31 PS. Both versions have a top speed of 120 km / h. The more powerful CE 04 sprints from 0 to 50 km / h in 2.6 seconds and has a range of around 130 kilometers. The A1 variant is about 100 kilometers away.

The drive is fixed to the frame in the area between the battery and the rear wheel. According to BMW, the charging time for the lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 8.9 kilowatt hours is four hours and 20 minutes with a completely empty battery. With the optional quick charger with up to 6.9 kW output (2.3 kW as standard), the charging process is reduced to 1 hour and 40 minutes. If the battery is discharged to 20 percent and is charged to 80 percent, the charging time can be reduced to 45 minutes with the quick charger.

The BMW CE 04 is equipped with an anti-slip control and optionally with a lean angle-dependent traction control. It rolls on 15-inch wheels that are retarded at the front by double disc brakes. The driver can choose from the three driving programs “Eco”, “Rain” and “Road” as well as “Dynamic” as special equipment.

Helmet compartment opens to the side
The CE 04 is equipped as standard with a 10.25 inch TFT color display with integrated map navigation and connectivity. The special features of the electric scooter include an actively ventilated cell phone compartment with USB-C connection, storage compartments on the side and the option of opening the helmet compartment under the “floating” bench while sitting. As is typical for BMW, there are further optional extras from the factory, including cornering lights and cornering instead of standard ABS.

The market launch is planned for February. The price will be 12,150 euros.
