strong disparities between regions… and within the same brand

In terms of bank rates, is it better to live in New Aquitaine, Corsica, Auvergne-Rhne-Alpes or the Antilles? Our Bank Trophies – 2024 Prices study, which rewards the least expensive establishments in each region, highlights notable differences between territories.

Every year, MoneyVox conducts a major study on bank rates, based on 3 typical customer profiles: Young, Classic and Premium. And the results once again reveal in this edition a certain disparity in prices between territories among traditional banks.

Thus, on the basis of our profiles and calculations, a young customer may be offered an average annual cost of 41.74 euros in Guyana (the most expensive rate in all territories combined) or 33.75 euros in Normandy (highest price in mainland France). ) compared to 29.94 euros in New Aquitaine or 29.97 euros in Center Val de Loire. Or around 39.4% difference if we take into account overseas, or 12.7% between the two most and least expensive metropolitan regions. But be careful, this figure remains an average, which can be high if certain establishments particularly increase prices in the region. Better then search in each region for the rare pearl, the establishment with the lowest pricing. To put the high cost of Normandy into perspective, for example, you should know that young people will only pay 20 euros per year to the Banque Populaire Grand Ouest (the cheapest bank in the region, which nevertheless has the highest average in France), which remains well below the average for the Young category (29.73 euros).

For a standard profile, the average price differences between regions are a maximum of 8.4%: 170.67 euros in Center Val de Loire compared to 185.09 euros in Martinique. If we stay in mainland France, the gap is reduced to 7.5% (the most expensive region being Auvergne Rhne Alpes). The Premium customer will be charged an average of 214.54 euros in Center Val de Loire compared to 229.51 euros in Ile de France (7% difference) or 229.01 euros in Normandy (+6.7%). But again, everything is relative: the cheapest traditional bank for this profile, all regions combined, is Crdit Agricole Center Loire (144 euros in fees per year) but if our typical client living in this region chooses instead to cross the threshold of the Banque Populaire Val de France, he will pay 251.21 euros per year, or 74% more! Hence the importance of carefully observing the banks’ price lists when joining an institution or changing one…

One essential thing to remember: overseas departments and regions pay a high price compared to French people residing in mainland France (MoneyVox will soon devote an article to these colossal differences in treatment).

Differences of up to 128% between checkouts… of the same group

You were a customer of Crdit Mutuel Ocan in Vende, you moved to Rennes and therefore decided to join Crdit Mutuel de Bretagne. Bad idea: while you paid 159.72 euros in the first establishment (for a Premium profile), you will pay 247.91 euros in the second! Or 55% difference.

Worse still for a young Norman student who would leave Banque Populaire Grand Ouest to establish an account at BRED Banque Populaire Paris, thinking of paying the same price since the banks are headed by the same parent company. Its annual banking fees would go from 20 euros per year to 45.60 euros, an increase of 128%.

A situation which does not help the readability of mutual bank prices, even if certain funds have identical price lists. Here again, just one piece of advice for customers: pay close attention to bank brochures… or take the plunge for an online bank, at a much lower cost.
