A loud explosion was heard on Sunday October 1 in the heart of the Turkish capital, Ankara. This occurred in an area close to the parliament and the Ministry of the Interior. The Turkish Interior Ministry quickly described the explosion as” terrorist attack “.

“Two terrorists showed up in a light military vehicle around 9:30 a.m. (8:30 a.m. French time, editor’s note) in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of the Interior and carried out a bomb attack”indicated this ministry, reporting two injured among the police officers.

According to Turkish media, exchanges of fire were also heard in the parliament area which houses many ministries. Numerous police vehicles and ambulances were deployed in the area.

Parliament was due to reopen on Sunday after the summer recess.
