Strong heat thunderstorms: – Civil defense alarm in Spittal and Villach-Land!

The civil defense alarm went off again in two Carinthian districts: the severe heat storm caused power failure and flooding on Thursday evening. Numerous volunteer fire brigades are currently on duty.

Heavy rain, spilled streams and floods keep the fire brigades in several districts on their toes. “In Kaning, Bad Kleinkirchheim and Radweg, many firefighters are currently on duty,” reports the LAWZ. According to the storm center, the highest alert level applies to parts of the Carinthian districts of Spittal an der Drau, Feldkirchen and St. Veit an der Glan. Residents are asked not to leave their houses and, if necessary, to seek safety on the upper floors! There was also a power outage in some affected communities. The fire brigade went out to pump out several cellars and the streets were also flooded. Locally, the thunderstorms on Thursday evening were very strong and caused large amounts of rain and hail, such as on the Falkert. “The main danger is small-scale flooding or mudslides,” says the Severe Weather Center (UWZ).
