Strong in the class – New Stellantis platform can cover 700 kilometers!

The Stellantis Group has presented a new electric car platform that represents a major step towards practical range. The STLA Medium platform should enable up to 700 kilometers according to WLTP. The first representative will be the Peugeot 3008, which celebrates its world premiere in September.

STLA Medium is used for several vehicles and drive configurations in the C and D segments. Up to two million vehicles per year can be built on this basis in several plants worldwide. Production will start in Europe later this year. “What we see today is the result of more than two years of uncompromising innovation – with the goal of enabling clean, safe and affordable mobility, backed by investments of 30 billion euros in electrification and software by 2025,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. “In doing so, we are working towards our goal of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2038.” STLA Medium achieves kilometers with the so-called performance package, while the standard package enables more than 500 kilometers of WLTP range. “With a useful energy of up to 98 kilowatt hours (kWh), STLA Medium is unsurpassed in its class in terms of embedded power, i.e. the power transferred to the wheels,” says the company. Depending on the type of use, consumption can be less than 14 kWh per 100 kilometers. Records will hardly be reached for the charging time because Stellantis relies on a 400-volt system: In the best case, the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in 27 minutes. The flexible platform should be used for a whole range of body types, from classic cars to crossovers and SUVs. The wheelbase can be between 2700 and 2900 millimeters, the overall length is 4.3 to 4.9 meters and a ground clearance of up to 220 millimeters should ensure off-road suitability. Wheels with a diameter of up to 750 millimeters are planned. A choice of front or all-wheel drive will be offered worldwide. There is also a second electric drive module in the rear. The BEV output power ranges from 160 to 285 kW. In terms of battery type, all of the group’s new platforms (STLA Small/Medium/Large/Frame) are open-ended and open to future battery types, including nickel-free and cobalt-free batteries as well as solid-state batteries designed.
