Strong smartphone with desktop mode on offer: is the Motorola smartphone worth it?

Turning the smartphone into a PC, or more precisely: missing a desktop mode, is not exactly new. Motorola follows through with this idea more consistently than competitors like Samsung or Huawei, because the right docking station for a monitor or television is included in the scope of delivery, as is a USB-C cable with HDMI connection. So all you have to do is connect the mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth – and the smartphone can be used almost like a full-fledged computer. Only almost, because of course there are no professional programs that you are used to from Windows or Macs. Since Android forms the basis here, the Motorola Moto G100 feels most like a Chromebook in desktop mode. This means that as long as the applications are web-based, i.e. run in the browser, the smartphone makes a good, high-performance impression.

The desktop feature is also suitable for streaming games, for example via Steam Remote Play or XBox Game Streaming, since Android also allows controllers to be connected. If you only need a notebook or desktop computer for simple office tasks and want to stream games instead of installing them, you get a good 2-in-1 device here.

The other features of the Motorola Moto G100, in addition to the strong performance and the very good battery capacity, are rather high average: the display delivers good images, but is not quite at the high-end level. The same applies to the camera, which takes nice photos in daylight but weakens in low light conditions.

Our conclusion at the time of testing:

In the test, the Motorola Moto G100 impressed with excellent performance, a long-lasting battery and an individual software feature. The equipment is solid, but lacks some high-end standards, such as full dust and water protection certification. The Moto G100 also offers a memory card slot and a jack for wired headphones. The scope of delivery also clearly speaks for the Motorola Moto G100, because a suitable USB-C to HDMI cable and a USB-C docking station are included. The photo quality is okay, but leaves something to be desired in weak light.” Read the entire test.
