Strong storm – Upper Styria: power outages & downed trees

Strong gusts of wind on Monday afternoon and evening caused several firefighting operations. Above all, eastern Upper Styria between Leoben and the Mürztal was affected. There are 81 disruptions in the power grid (as of 8 p.m.). Trains between Bruck an der Mur and Graz were canceled due to storm damage in Mixnitz.

Downed trees, power outages, closed roads: the people of Upper Styria need patience on this Monday afternoon and evening. Many fire brigades had to move out. For example in Oberaich, a part of Bruck an der Mur: loose sheet metal parts from the roof of a furniture store threatened to fall onto an ÖBB high-voltage power line – which would have paralyzed rail traffic. In Mixnitz, however, there was damage to the ÖBB line. All trains between Bruck and Graz have been canceled and are being run as rail replacement services. Half an hour’s drive away, in the Aflenzertal, it suddenly got dark around 3 p.m. in the afternoon – the power went out. In some cases, the defect was remedied after 20 minutes, in other cases the residents had to wait until the evening hours. For example in St. Ilgen, a district of Thörl, where the power failure and the road were closed, as Mayor Günther Wagner reported on Facebook. In the evening hours, Energie Steiermark also recorded failures in Tragöß and St, Katharein an der Laming, Veitsch and in the area around Neuberg an der Mürz. Around Leoben and Trofaiach, for example in Gimplach, there were also power outages. Trees blocked the streets there, one even fell onto a carport, the fire brigades were in constant use. Caution was advised when skiing in the afternoon on Präbichl. Due to the strong gusts of wind, some lifts had to stop operating. On Monday evening at 8 p.m., Energie Steiermark recorded a total of 81 disruptions in the power grid.
