Strong vision – Mercedes EQXX should achieve incredible goals

Mercedes has finally set course in the direction of e-mobility. The EQXX flagship project is intended to point the way to this future.

Mercedes has published a first picture of its electric experimental sedan EQXX via its social media channels. The declared goal of the lighthouse project announced for 2022 is a range under real conditions of more than 1000 kilometers and consumption of less than 10 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers at normal motorway speed.

As the picture suggests, vehicle aerodynamics should play a crucial role in achieving these goals. The picture shows indications of a particularly aerodynamic design, such as the absence of rear-view mirrors.

The focus on streamlined design is also indicated in the details in the front. Air openings in the front hood and a flat Mercedes star are probably intended as a visual reference to the “C 111” series from the 1970s. With the experimental vehicles of the time, Mercedes succeeded in setting efficiency records several times. Starting next year, this role is to be assigned to the EQXX, whose technological advances are also to be incorporated into the development of new vehicle architectures for the group.

There are three new e-platforms coming
According to the recently introduced “Electric only” program, they will be exclusively electric from 2025 onwards. The Stuttgart-based carmaker intends to introduce three new e-platforms by then. As a scalable modular system, the MB.EA platform is intended to be the basis for all medium-sized and large BEV cars. With AMG.EA, an electric platform designed for top performance is also planned. VAN.EA is the name of the future substructure for electric vans and light commercial vehicles.
