Study confirms CoD gamers are the most toxic

A recent study looked at how positive or negative the communities of different games are. And by analyzing social media data, the results revealed that Call of Duty fans are the most toxic by far.

There are a huge number of Call of Duty games that thousands of players log into every day. From Warzone, to Vanguard, to CoD Mobile, and even the latest Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare installments which are still highly regarded by some fans, there’s no shortage of people who are dedicated to the famous FPS franchise.

However, it looks like this massive player base isn’t content to just put heads in multiplayer.

A recent study by Wordtips that looked at social media data across thousands of tweets and hundreds of followers for a number of gaming and entertainment communities demonstrated that CoD gamers seem equally dedicated in regarding toxicity.

Worse still, CoD players are more negative than any other game.

CoD gamers are the most toxic in the world of video games

Call of Duty players are officially the most toxic players.

Although it is not clear which games were taken into account in this study, the study conducted by Wordtips indicates that they analyzed “a long list of fanbases” and the result is clear, the community of Call of Duty is by far the most negative video game fanbase online.

With 184 negative words per 1,000 tweeted words, CoD fans are reportedly 11.5% more toxic than the second most negative group of gamers (Mortal Kombat).

This data is perhaps not very surprising, because Call of Duty has always been a very trash-talking game. Challenging players in 1v1, insults in a lobby are notably popular elements of CoD culture.

This is how Call of Duty fans compare to other fanbases in terms of internet toxicity.

What is surprising though is that the CoD fanbase is not the most toxic group studied. According to the study, Rihanna fans take the top spot, narrowly ahead of FPS gamers with 186 negative words out of 1,000.

However, it is important to specify that certain games seem to be absent from this study, such as League of Legends, Fortnite or CSGO.
