Styling mistakes: This is how you accidentally make yourself look older than you are

Caution!
5 styling mistakes that make you look older than you are

It’s not just make-up and hairstyle that affect how old we are thought to be. The way we look also plays a big part in the impression we make. If you avoid these styling mistakes, you’ll never be seen as older than you really are.

We all remember: when we were 15 we really wanted to look like we’d grown up a long time ago, while today our look can cheat us a little bit younger. We just don’t want to look older than we are, and luckily we don’t have to as long as we avoid these styling mistakes.

1. Nude-colored tights

They ensure an even complexion and provide at least minimal protection against cooler temperatures – but unfortunately they also cost us a few years optically. We’re talking about probably the biggest fashionable love-hate relationship aka skin-colored tights. If it’s too cold outside for bare legs, it’s better to wear black stockings – either semi-transparent (super sexy!) or opaque (enchants long legs!).

2. Tweed, Cord & Co.

Don’t get us wrong: we love tweed, corduroy, velvet or bouclé – but the mix sets the tone here. Anyone who wears a modest dress with a boxy tweed jacket or combines a cardigan with corduroy trousers will quickly look old-fashioned and more reminiscent of an old English lady than a cool fashionista. However, we don’t have to do without the classy pieces – we just have to style them properly. The tweed jacket with a lingerie top and leather trousers makes a big impression, and corduroy gets a trendy update in the form of an oversized power suit.

3. Seidencarré

Our grandmothers must have a whole drawer full of colorful silk scarves that we always admired when we were children. And yes, some of us are still dreaming of a Carré from Hermès today. Completely understandable, which is why it would be a shame to let such a piece of jewelery gather dust in the depths of the wardrobe. Instead of tying it around your neck, which quickly gives your look a granny touch, you should rather rely on more creative styling alternatives. How about tying the scarf in your hair or wrapping it around the handle of your favorite bag? Even as a framed picture in the living room, an elaborately printed cloth can become a real eye-catcher.

4. Pearl Jewelry

Pearls celebrated a veritable revival in fashion last summer – and rightly so! Instead of the classic, perfectly rounded pearls that grandma loved to wear, fashionistas turned to the less accurately shaped baroque pearls. In the XXL version with gold wire or super small strung together as a choker, the pearl gets a cool upgrade and is guaranteed not to be confused with its dusty predecessor. A true fountain of youth for your look!

5. Kitten heels

We love heels! You stretch your leg and conjure up a great gait. However, too many centimeters under the feet are also a guarantee for pain. The solution: kitten heels. But beware! Because the mini heels (no higher than five centimeters!) quickly look slippery and old-fashioned and make us older than we are in one fell swoop. Since we (and the designers) don’t want to do without the shoe model, we make sure that the heel only adorns boots or mules or comes in a geometric shape.
